Meet Meglena Kuneva. Looks like a real barrel of laughs, right? She's some kind of minister at the EU and now she too is joining the freetard chorus about iTunes and iPods. Jesus. See here. Ms. Sourpuss says it's not right that iTunes songs only play on an iPod. She's very, very upset about this. Well, folks, isn't this just your typical European nanny state mentality? Why should a government feel the need to get involved in this? Meg, if your subjects don't like the way iTunes and iPods are set up, they don't have to buy them. They have absolute freedom of choice here. The market can vote with its dollars. I realize this is probably a novel concept for someone from, um, Bulgaria. No, seriously. I really do want to get some lessons in morality from a politician whose native country sided with the Nazis in the second World War, then fell in with the Soviets for a few decades. Yep. Please, Meglena Kuneva. Please teach me right from wrong, O heroic defender of human rights. You're all about freedom, aren't you? Thank you, thank you, for saving the world from the curse of DRM on iTunes.

I think this is going too far.
this farce.
In europe, politics means Microsoft lobby.
to access most of the government funded commodities you have to own a windows machine, otherwise you are left behind.
but I blame the mac users, we do nothing to force them to make softwares compatible for the mac.
the governments agencies of course.
Winner of the Imelda Marcos Look-alike contest.
That's FSJ's FF. No lie.

I think some enterprising European journalist should investigate the money changing hands here. Is the Norwegian consumer ministry, or whatever the hell it is, the next SCO? Is it just frigtardism that is responsible for this grand realignment of dorks in Europe? I suspect the former.
Is Bulgaria even a real country, I mean really how can they even hope to continue if this is all they have to procreate with? I mean if I had to try and f... that, well I'd need a vat of beer and more than a normal dose of Viagra. God help us. Also looks like you'd need a weedwhacker for her crotch, just guessing.
It would appear that the photographer didn't catch her at a particularly flattering moment.
I'm disappointed you fail to see the hard work I've put in this. I told you we would give this to the Bulgarians. It is the way we, Belgian diplomats, work.
This basically means that Norwegians, French and Bulgarians must team up together and work out a report for the commission. First point on the agenda, deciding the common language for this discussion. Now think group dynamics. En plus, I gave all involved in the investigation free iPods as exhibit material.
Do you have any idea what those iPods will do to the Bulgarians? They all will want one. Then they will accuse her of taking bribes and she won't get re-elected.
Come on, I know what I'm doing!
I've seen better pictures of her but that's beside the point...
And the point is: I'm friggin honored you know so much about Bulgaria's choices in 1941-45! Keep up the good work.
Don't you mean that the market can vote with its euros? After all, it's this high-handed American-centric attitude that really pisses them off. (Pissed, as in the American usage, and not the British usage, although they can go get pissed afterwards if they don't like it.)
There are some miseries money can't buy. For everything else there's Microsoft.
Falling in with the Soviets? Not like
they had much of a choice there. OK, you can always say that was the sarcastic bit.
Why not dwell on the fact that they joined the EU, like, three months ago...? They should just sit, watch and observe for a while.
Hey anonymous, If BIll Gates was in GA he'd get shot. Send him to Seattle where he belongs, with the other Microsoftians!
The fake pearls are lovingly handcrafted in Elbonia.
Eastern Imelda will soon launch her own Euro-nanny search engine and put Google & Amerikan Imperialism out of business.
Sad thought: I guess a facial would be a no-no with her.
please. quite a couple of european countries have more democratic democracies (better voting system, for one) than the United States. And plenty of people in europe own ipods. Who cares if 1 prominent figure in a million doesn't like ipods.
Bill Gates and George Bush are American. Always remember that.
And you have to give the city of Munich credit for making a big public affair of dumping windows on the cities computers. And the EU is pulling Micro$oft to court all the time, just so that people can enable quicktime and itunes for their players, without friggin WMP getting in the way. And it cost micro$oft a couple billion.
I still have yet to figure out this whole EU thing. I mean what good does it do? OK the EU wants to open up the iTunes music store and the iPod - so why does Apple have to negotiate 27 separate contracts to sell music there? They can condemn you as a single entity but fail to act as a single entity when working with you.
The joke that is the EU claims to have a consumer base of nearly 500 million. That is a total farce. those 500 million are broken up into 27 separate nations that each still control the consumer business.
If the EU wants to be effective then Apple should be able to negotiate an EU wide right to sell music and there should be one store for the whole EU priced in Euros. Anything less just shows the world what a joke the EU is and what its main function is - it makes jobs for rich politicos.
Gawd, the EuroWeenies make me sick.
FSJ, the answer is simple. Put the following full-page ad in the EuroWeenie Gazette or Modern Marx or whatever the EuroWeenies read (if anything):
--------------
"Attention EuroWeenies:
Because the EU is being run by a bunch of friggin' freetards, I've decided to stop selling iPods in Europe in 30 days. Unless, of course, the 'tards in Brussels happen to disappear sometime in the next 30 days. In that case, I just might change my mind.
Namaste,
FSJ"
--------------
The 'tards in Brussels wouldn't last 4 hours.
Steve,
I totally agree with you on
a) this lady being a sourpuss ( that's even a compliment!)
b) (EU)Government shouldn't care about stuff like this
c) the freedom of choice & markets
d) MS being evil and MAC being good
but: I respectfully disagree with your short-circuit that the fact that Bulgaria was allied with Germany during WWII, or has been occupied by the Soviets afterwards means that she's wrong per se.
I mean, I'm neither blaming you for My Lai,Hiroshima, Nagasaki, not even for Abu-Ghraib.
Greetings from Germany,
Jörg.

When people will start to understand that Europe is NOT the US where companies do (in terms of competition) what they want, then we will see some change in politics.
Microsoft is facing some big threats too about their newly launched Vista OS.
If I would to consider buying a new PC (or switch to Apple) I have to look at the considerably larger prices on Macs, and that's a no no.
iPods are expensive and useless in the European market where people tend not to buy from US music stores (we'd better sustain our own employees, if you know what I mean).
Jay, you're right. I wonder when the EU will really act as a single market. I dread the introduction of the iPhone as well: there may well be 27 mobile carriers to deal with, because Vodafone Germany doesn't talk much to Vodafone Hungary, or the other 25 Vodafones.
As far as the looks of that woman: yeah, my American friends, she's definitely not as pretty as your women politicians, like Albright, right?
At least European women don't take three airplane seats, and we call them obese when they are 40 pounds overweight, not when they are 400.
This story is going too far.
I wonder if Apple have ever said that downloaded music from the Apple Store will play on any mp3/mp4 player !.
It is like if I sue Ford because the tires they sold me for my car are only good for my Ford model, not even for any Ford!!!!.
How about if I sue Seagate because I can't use the SATA disk on my ATA mac mini !.
And how about suing Disney because all my VHS tapes will not play on my DVD player, they should return my money or give me a new DVD!.
This simply shows Euro-bureaucrats have not a clue.
It is pretty simple: Sons from Apple Sotore only play on your iPod.
EU... what a pity

Steve-o,
you think you're tough? Look closelyat the necklace the Mrs.Marcos is wwearing. it's made of baby teeth-- no doubt from the children of Apple executives.
A warning thought;Don't screw with people who wear teeth necklaces.
Come home to the ashram, warm curdled goat's milk a bowl of lentels and simple home spun await you.

Steve, mate, what are you afraid of, you patronising git? If I were you, I'd be embarassed to use such cheap arguments about WWII and the Soviets. Very sorry for you!
oh, jeez, so it is alright that the EU has judged that microsoft has to share technical info needed for 3rd party interoperability with windows and to unbundle wmp, but apple facing almost the same criticisms is now a bad thing? at least the EU is trying to accomplish something that will be good for the customers, and not for "the market".
каква наглост само!някакъв,който и понятие си няма от българската история ще прави подобни коментари за страната!и меглена кунева може да не е мис свят,но ти,чичо, поглеждал ли си се скоро в огледалото?
how pathetic
Hey you "Steve"! Glad that you know so much about our country. I see you love history. Oh, by the way... did you know your country elected G.W.Bush? Twice!
Are you really Steve Jobs, The Great Steve?! I can not believe the real Steve would talk this way about my country ... :(
It's really sad when 'progressive' Americans try to comment on topics they have no clue about. Like EU politics for example.
One think that desperately needs to be understood is that a main goal of the EU is to protect consumers, at least to some extent. And human rights are important, my dear fellow- not just the rights you are concerned about (gay marriage, abortion) but also the rights of the majority of people as it turns out that majority also matters.
Not knowing enough history is not a sin when it comes from someone who's nation has no more than three significant events to remember. Bulgaria is also the one country that saved its Jewish population although this has very little to do with iTunes.
"...sided with the Nazis in the second World War, then fell in with the Soviets for a few decades."
and now is going with the US in Iraq - for us, the Bulgarians, this move is exactly like Nazis alliance against Europe. And decades of Soviet rule was because so called "free countries" betrayed us to Russians, just to buy some, hm, time....?
Better learn history, Steve, you're so....
we can just answer to this like Serbians, when they were bombed by other genuine president of US -
"jebo wam mater u ustu, sto puta da wam jebem swe sunce i veru"
Greetings "Steve",
I heard about this post from a friend and was surprised by the impact your post had. Unfortunately it is not related to the narrowly depicted thesis - leave the free market decide for itself (to which I actually sympathize to a certain extent) but to the unacceptable 'ad hominem' argument of a politician you equalize with an entire nation and whose morality you judge by relating a nations historical geo-political choices made half a century ago.
You like creating beautiful things and get upset by negativity? Well Steve you created something ugly by upsetting a nation with your words. As eloquently put by D-lander you chose Nukelar-George twice yet you would not appreciate me measuring you by looking at your president right? America's poor president has the IQ of room temperature and speaks like a regular trailer white trash and god forbid his speach writers put something more sophisticated in his daily say - he sweats like Tom Jones on a solo concert. There are only a few complete idiots in the world and judging by your grammar not quite there yet. So is that an argument? Is such comparison any good?
You also expressed some moral judgment about my country's choices during the second world war. Siding with the Nazis, siding with the commies,.. well Bob besides showing complete ignorance on the historical side of things you also show quite the lack of perspective. No, seriously to come at your level of "argument for morality" well....I really do want to get some lessons in morality from an anonymous blogger whose native country's history lies on the massacre its native people, on using the most destructive of mass destruction weapons on over populated cities, on killing millions over millions of people through the last century, on financially sponsoring every possible war in the third world, and on selling weapons to both sides of each conflict, on the country that then sends the cavalry to restore "Democracy" and build infrastructure on preferential prices... Should I continue? Well i lack laconic measure but as Jörg already said Hiroshima, Nagasaki, My Lai, Abu-Ghraib... still not enough?
How does that sound? Lame? Familiar? Inappropriate? Or all of the above? Well it ain't untrue, but is it out of the perspective when regarding any statement made by an American? Or an American politician? Or is it not? So if I do your perspective some honor I should think you a grand-o-maniac for mentioning...uh... Bulgaria (surprised you spelled it right? Good boy!), an idiot (gee you have such a nice fella for a puesident), a mass murderer (I wont even explain this one), a hypocrite, a Jesuit, a chauvinist... No I definitely do not think this is Steve Paul Jobs writing. So who are you really and why do you post opinions on issues you have no clue on how to defend "O heroic defender of human rights!" and iPods for that matter? Well Bob I actually own an iPod and I do give my own bit of dollars and euros to this "devious" product with pleasure and the last thing I am going to care about is a third grade politician with no real say on the matter from a dying party that will not exist in the next year who is doing some pennies and cents of of a speech someone paid her for.
Tell me "Steve" since when are politicians honest or representing (not using) any society?
P.S. I believe you own an apology for your comments and for the pretense of being someone you're not.
It's beemer... no,no!
It's a boom pole... no?
Holy Shit...
It's a BOOMERANG!
It's not Fake Steve Jobs, it's just a Fake Blow Job...
Stupid Yankees, just plain idiots...
I'm really surprised that you guys are so mean and some of your comments are SF red-necked. I'm proud Bulgarian an my country has so ancient history that your minds can't even bear, and bright future that's not quite your case (look who your leader is). Just wander how many of you mean people even know where Europe is?
car rentals in Bulgaria
You guys don't even know what a country and a continent is, not to mention Bulgaria and Europe. Eat your fast-food, jerk off and leave the thinking for us haha pathetic fools
