Howard Stringer says I'm greedy

See here. Money quote: "Stringer said Jobs, who just launched the iPhone, is the "greedy" one because he wants a world where only he makes money." Translation: Steve Jobs is kicking my ass, boo-hoo-hoo...

if he can only get tripe like this printed in the ny post, you know he's scraping the bottom of the barrel to get himself heard. being vetted by the ny post is like hearing it on fox news for veracity. as in: NOT!

What Mr Stringer is sorry about is that he is not you, I truly admired SONY they made so many things, until their company became about making money instead of products...

And we're supposed to listen to this guy, why?????

Anonymous said...

He's just bitter cause he still watches movies with a betamax machine, hooked up to his 'telly',while quaffing a pint and nibbling on some crisps. He may even be a poofta.

Pot. Meet Kettle.

Nuff said.

I guess he is in it for the charity then. Look at this scumface! How come most of the CEOs look like that? They should hang out with Mr. Dell and share a bottle of whiskey or two when they're both left high and dry. Sony like Dell is going down in flames.

Sony are totally down.

At the bottom of the article, there's a link to read the "next story."

Money quote: ... he's afraid of flying, but said of his new love: "She keeps me calm so I am able to handle it. We saw a rainbow, and I photographed it on my new iPhone."

I'm not sure if his "new love" is Ashlee Simpson or the iPhone.

Photographing rainbows with iPhones. Mark my words, it's going to put psychiatry out of business.

Don't take my iPhone away, cause I'm a regular - but when did the tag line change from "I invented the iPod - maybe you have heard of it." to "I invited the iPhone - maybe you have heard of it."

I feel really bad that I missed the celebration.

Please advise how I can make this shortcoming in my attention up.

THAT would teach those samurais not to put a gaijin in charge, as the Trojans used to say.

Here on Stringer-Watch we are keenly observing these gripping last moments of the Gaijin's career.
Stringer's latest move is sending out a booklet to other captain's of industry, full of his new "anti-greed" messages.

This includes auteur Stringer: "Even though the writers are out of ideas, we're gonna make Pirates 4,5 and 6 because ART demands it!"

And noble Stringer: "We had to infect Audio CD's with a rootkit to protect the poor starving artists!"

And the unforgettable techno-pioneer Stringer: "The awesome exponential growth in the technical complexity of the PS3 means for the first time, no game developer can possibly afford to make a game for the PS3 without Sony's financial support. From now on, every game is a first-party game."

The best part of this is when Anderson Cooper tries to change the subject but Diller said, "Anderson, you're missing something here, Howard Stringer just called Steve Jobs greedy."

Random Guy said...

Isn't Stringer one of the guys that makes 66 cents on a 99-cent iTunes song download, a product that costs him approximately nothing to produce? Yet they all want "flexible pricing" even on 40-year-old albums that were fully cost-amortized when FSJ was still wearing Batman pj's? I think we all know who the *real* greedy bastard is...

FSJ,
Keep on ass kickin' your products are great and serve you customers well.... don't let small minded Sirs who you are beating in the market distract you .... in '99, APPL's dark days, I bought a Sony Vaio notebook, beautiful machine (for a Windows box) .... Sony lost their brains, their stuff these past few years is crap .... I love my black MacBook and all my other AAPL products, including my most recent purchase -- the iPhone ...

Somebody call the waaaaaahmbulance!!! Stringer's got a raging case of acute Jealous.

Right, SONY has a problem with how much ANOTHER company made.

William Middleton said...

That's funny. I'm sure the man's in terrible pain.

I wonder if the employees at Sony see him as the
"BIG WHITE GIANT" from America (who's ruining
their company).

He needs to double up on the acupuncture.

I'm greedy too and I'm enjoying kicking Microsofts and Sonys asses.

Dude, it's the New York Post. Please tell me you don't read that toilet paper. It's about as newsworthy as farting dog.

Anonymous said...

TIM - are you fer' real?

The next article, that you kindly gave a link for, was about some dude called Pete Wentz, and the "quote" you gave was given by someone else "quoting" Pete Wentz. Who is Money that you mentioned?

Two things come to my mind here.

One - Your post seemed to infer that Stringer (a Welshman, I think) was taking the snap shots of rainbows.

Two - Passing the message along the lines ends up with shit like -
"Send three n' four pence we are going to a dance."

Three - The NY Post looks like a reliable journalistic rag ... not !!!

To Anonymous: If you make a comment with the words "pot" and "kettle" you are a major comment-tard.

Sony could win a customer out of me if they just quit trying to make software. Their phones are beautiful and work for sh1t. Their laptops are beautiful and are loaded with craplets that make Windows unusable. And the memory sticks and BRD, ugh.

A bit rich Taffy (he's Welsh you know) to accuse someone of being greedy when they only get paid $1 a year !!

He was actually talking about iTunes downloads but as random guy points out, they (Record Cos) take 2/3s of the money to start with and any price increase would be largely benefit them.

What would he be saying if the shoe was on the other foot? Do as you would be done by !!

Anonymous said...

Even the iPod accessories of these Sonytard sare lame! How embarrassing.

Isn't Sony the company that "invented" beautiful standards such as:
- minidisc
- super audio CD
- Blu ray
- Memory S(t)ick (in several flavours (coincidentally as soon as 3rd party manufacturers started to produce them cheaply as well) such as: regular, Pro, MagicGate, Duo, Pro Duo)
- iLink

All these products were invented with the sole purpose of hooking customers in the "Sony world". That matches totally the definition of "greed" in my vocabulary.

Ah.. I almost forgot... I have a K800i (with no contract it costed almost like the iPhone), all the software Sony delievered with it DOES NOT WORK on my Mac. And Sony has no plans to create such software, maybe because their Vaio line of notebooks doesn't work on Mac OSX?

FSJ I am with you, I honestly am.
I understand you don't create products out of greed but only because YOU need them and no one else creates beautiful products. So you just design them FOR YOU. Me, as many others, just like the fact that you design products you actually USE and ARE PROUD of. This is the difference... Wonder if Sony's CEO has ever had to install Vista on his sparkling new VAIO.

Steve, don't give up. Many of us understand that your products are there just because in your everyday use you couldn't use the ones made by others.

I am looking forward to when you start looking around for a TV.. And decide you'd better design one on your own :-)

Poor Howard Stringer.

And Sony just released iPod accessories yesterday.

Guess where those sales are now going?

Prescription for Stringer: warm sake followed by hot seppuku!

but is the Post as newsworthy as, say, a belgian farting pig?

I forgot something in my list of "standards" that Sony created and that show they are not greedy at all:
- the marvellous proprietary connector on top of every Sony Handycam... So you can only connect Sony microphones, lights and so on...

One more thing...

They say Apple is greedy.. But yet they CAN build iPod accessories. Can ANY other company build Sony Handycam accessories?

ALL YOU'RE SONY ARE BELONG TO US!!!

and yet european ps3 prices are still extortionate... he can go swivel.

Anonymous said...

If an anonymous comment is insulted and belittled by another anonymous commenter isn't that almost like insulting yourself, since the comment in turn could all be done by the same person seeking some validation and credit, while seeking none at the same time through their refusal to use a real name?

And would a comment by another anonymous (like this one) not again be further proof of such fallacy?

I am getting a headache…

When SONY had the market cornered with PS2 or for that matter the Walkman Heaven forbid anyone cry foul about the Japanese and the Matsushita. Oh brother. Cry foul, and don't let american manufacturers get components, etc...

Anon - Sony did not invent the protocol they christened iLink. They licensed it from its true developer, who calls it "FireWire."

that's fucking rich. sony, the company that makes everything from shitty-rip-protected-cd's to kobe beef, is losing to the competition. oh, that's right, business is all about competition. i totally forgot about that amongst all sir howie's whining!!!

Let me see now.... when sony was SONY and they actually made things--quality things--instead of owning studios... and they ruled with the Walkman and everybody had one and on it they played music taped from their friends' LPs... How much of a royalty did they pay to the record industry?

That's exactly how much Apple should pay on ipods.

waaaa, waaaa. waaaa. Stringer's just mad Sony can't make a battery that dosn't catch on fire or a game console that will actually sell.
