Caveat hacker: We're boobytrapping some iPhones

Not going to tell you which units have the bomb in them. But I wouldn't go opening any of these babies up if I were you. If you want to see what happens, check out this story. Trust me, it's not pleasant. (Photo by Honza Buzerant, Prague Business Daily.)

Obviously, this is one of the newer iPhones with the anti-tamper mechanism in place. It is possible that one of the three screws, when fully removed, triggered the detonator.
Usually there is a time delay of a few seconds wherein a jumper wire must be used to short out the detonator before the timer causes the self destruct, but this is not always the case as some mechanisms have no time delay at all - you have to check the serial number against the list.
OTOH, placing the iPhone on a block of dry ice, or using liquid nitrogen to cool it down will lower the battery voltage sufficiently to prevent detonation. NB: an ordinary freezer is not cold enough for a lithium battery.

Maybe this unlucky person got one of those iPhones that was made specifically for MI that is suppose to self destruct. Someone at manufacturing logistics isn't keeping the two assembly lines distinct.

The photo credit seems strange - "Honza Buzerant" means something like "John Faggot" in Czech.

So how do the Apple Geniuses get in? I guess this is a test to prove that they are, lest their hands and other parts get burn/exploded off.

Yet another foiled plot to put the Beard's lights out. Steve, you can't solve all of America's problems. You can't have the money AND the yeyo. I know more and more people keep buying your little friend, but entre nous, are you smacked? Let he who is without sin set up us the bomb.

Given recent history, I expect a class action lawsuit from thwarted hackers...
