Protests have begun

Remember this dame? Well, she's back, and she's brought her little doll with her, only this time she's pissed. This is her standing in the angry mob outside my house this morning, going, "Steve Jobs! Steve Jobs! I know you're in there! Can you see me? Can you see what I'm doing to this doll? Same thing you've done to us! Okay? I've got three fingers up there, Jobso! Three! Can you feel it? Does it hurt? You crook! You bastard! You criminal! I want my two-hundred-dollar rebate! Do you hear me? I'll buy a Zune! And a Dell! I'll do it! I swear to God I'll do it!"

Damn. Last night they were out there holding a candlelight vigil and singing "We Shall Overcome." To hell with it. I'm calling the police.

I bought an iPhone on launch day. Luckily my friend at the Apple store didnt notice that was more than 14 days ago ... but I did not walk out with $200+. I walked out with $540+.
Thanks bitch, it was nice while it lasted.

Don't feel bad. You could have paid $249 too much for a Zune.

Well fair enough. Where were the guns and Israeli looking dudes forcing you folks in the first place?

Ah idealism: how vain you truly are.

I feel like protesting, Steve. I ordered one from Colorware at the old price (I wanted to make it even more special) and before it even arrived, you lowered the price. There's no way I can take it back because it's custom.

If I had had the phone for 2 months, I would not be complaining because it would have been worth it. But I feel screwed because it hasn't arrived yet.

I'm expecting your check in the mail, Steve.

Thanks.

Well, Steve-o me ol' flip-flop, you've feckin' dentoned it this time. Too much Knob-U-Lizer time, my friend.

Its one thing to feck the life out of a segment of your punters over pricing - they'll just think you are a dirty, evil bastard. Maybe you'll bring some of them round by buying them off. But in the name of love, how the feck do you get your iPhone pricing so fecked up? You have to try really, seriously hard to do that. What? You weren't at the meeting when they said it was too expensive?

And how come the first real video iPod has only 16GB? I have to admit that's the first hard evidence of a dogmatic "form over function" approach.

Your piss-poor performance yesterday marks Apple's high water. The tide just turned you feckin' eejit. It won't be the beat that goes on. Just the hype, Jack, just the hype.

She looks like she's about to go down on your shiny head there.

Mmmmm...Apple babes are the best.

Are these people absolutely diluted? Companies do price breaks everyday, and do you think most companies issue ANY refund even if the purchase was yesterday? Nope, not usually...but Apple is going to do it for 14 days or less. Anyway, I sat in line and bought one on the first day and never looked back...it was all worth it.

I said...

Come on, all the people complaining who bought an ipod or iphone in the last two week, if you know that apple was going to make an announcement do not buy any products till after.

Anonymous said...

Steve, everyone's been pissing and moaning about the price cut, but as long time apple fanboy I understand that's what happens. But why on earth aren't you touting the fact that you made the downloading of starbucks music available to everyone with the new itunes. You just turned every computer on the planet into a cash register than no longer requires an outraged iphone user to make a purchase. My hat's off to you Steve this was a brilliant move one I'm sure I'll be using.

WHAT'S THE BIG DEAL?

I've been getting screwed buying mac computers for the past 10 years. Everytime I buy a mac, another one, with better features and much cheaper is released. It's the price you pay for great innovation.
Suck it up.

KPR said...

well, to the losers of $200:
you got publicity and wow factor as a first comer (user) and that covers the losing $200.

I used to think, Apple considers iTards as brained humans. thats changed now. Jesus (Jobso!).

Diamond said...

All I have to say... ROFL @ the people that go out and buy bleeding edge technology!!!

Please... If a popular product is released mid year. Chances they are going to lower the price for Christmas sales! You have no one to blame but yourselves, so go out and buy your Zunetoon phones and show us all up!

Corny said...

Sheesh, Steve!
The last couple of your posts are really harsh. Mellow out, man...! The 200 squid are in their heads not yours. Go snoop around some Yelptard party to lighten up or get yourself a desert sunrise or whatever...

I do like the new iPods by the way.

Anonymous said...

How about the poor 4GB iTard bastards? 68 days from cradle to grave for that piece of market research brilliance - priced for clearance and obsoleted... "That's technology..." Brilliant!

Apple Computer became Apple Consumer.

Someone who can afford 600 of those dollar things for a phone probably wouldn't notice 200 of them going missing over 3 months. That's 33 dollars a month (about seventeen quid), and that's like enough buy what? A sub-prime mortgage? A KFC supersize family bucket of gizzards and lard?

Whiny twats.

diskgrinder said...

that's $66 a month, I mean, so two buckets of KFC gizzards and lard, and a gun

TomsRants said...

Ya know?? It's simple supply and demand. The price was $599 because presumably Apple could barely keep up with demand. Now they're dropping the price to reflect projected demand combined with greater production efficiency.

If you didn't really believe it was worth $599, why did you go out and buy it?

Maybe in a couple of years when I can use whatever service I want, and replace my own chip and battery on the fly, iPhone will be interesting to me. Until then....meh.

Anonymous said...

All of you who thought it was a good deal at $600 and who now suddenly have changed your mind, wtf? It's now just an even better deal. Get over yourselves.

Whiners.

Fake steve, your tech was cool. I wouldn't have bought the 8gb Iphone just cuz I knew technology increase would force what happened. This will go down in history! your awsome for suckering the shmuckesss! I was soo going to try & get one soon.. but See verizon's got me by the tight & curly's.. but this price drop.. Wow! it like negates my reason for waiting! it's like free-transfer jobso! thanks for screwing them & inclining us to screw verizon!

FSJ,
Indulge me, I'm a curious vegetable. So you sold about half a million, give or take a few, since the intro. At $600 a pop, and 30-ish % margin, that's 90 mil clear (defered or not, and not counting kickback from ATT).
So what's the business case for selling the same for $400 now? Lower production costs (leveraged by the increased volume expected from commonality with the iPod touch)? Lowered margins, but higher volume making up the difference? Getting the price point low enough so the great unwashed $400 per capita in foreign lands can afford it (but doing the Red gets more kudos)?
I don't believe that market share is that big a deal, it's too Dell. Apple has never run a loss leader, and is famous among hardware companies in keeping margins up in the 20's or better. This is unlike the microtards, who are so desperate they lose money on every xbox they sell (and they lose more because it's so shoddily designed & manufactured).
So what gives?

Hey, I bought an original 5GB FireWire iPod back in 2001 (dock connectors are for sissies) and it is still going strong. But can I get a rebate/trade-in for an iPod Touch? I really really think I'm entitled.

Anonymous said...

Wait - I've figured it out.

You dropped the iPhone price because you had to. Then you decided to offer some sort of compensation. But you decided to wait until there was an uproar so you could ride the publicity and then announce the "concession" and look really magnanimous, all the while ringing up new iPhone sales.

You're BRILLIANT!

Please tell me I'm right and some gift certificate is coming my way...

Merciel said...

The real reason we are pissed is because now everyone can afford this phone. Hell, I even saw a homeless man fiddling with one today. Yes, it was actually my old 8GB one I gave to him because I just bought a snazzy new 16GB one and I'm in no mood to deal with the hassle that is ebay, but the point still stands. Now who will I impress with my iBling?

Argh...the life of a first adopter! I'm an Apple Fanboy thru and thru but the 60 day obsolescense of my 4gig iPhone rankles a bit. Think I'll step to the back of the que when the next Apple product to tweak my fancy is released.

100$ back to iPhone owners!

Your Steveness, forgive the unfaithful!

Early Adopters should not, I repeat NOT expect any current/future iPhone buyers to feel sorry for them.

Basically, you're saying that Apple should deny me a chance to buy an iPhone at a better price for a few months longer, for no other reason than to make YOU feel better.

Switch shoes with me and ask me where your sympathies would lie.

Maybe this will also teach the Apple Obsessives a lesson about going out and embarassing The Rest Of Us in public, in forums, and on blogs. We are all tired of being tarred with the more idiotic things you guys do--like getting in line days early to pay too much for a product that isn't even in short supply.

This whole price-drop thing was Steve's way to finally deliver his Shatner-at-the-Star-Trek-convention-get-out-of-your-mom's-basement-and-get-a-date-speech. Take it to heart.

AlBeRtO said...

Ok.
Here it is, in His Own Words.
Has anything like this happened before?
Has any of you ever seen this kind of customer care? Or is it customer licking?

Anonymous said...

They didn't have to do it, but $100 bucks in store credit! SWEET!!! I'm moving back to the front of the first adopters line :-)

Anonymous said...

every whiner should get on a black list. the blackest. not even allowed in an apple store. and blocked from the apple site. the blackest, ugliest list possible. the microsoft lovers list... and they all should get a zune. brown. freshly painted. and a Big Mac combo. with fries... from yesterday.

so you got screwed? so!? eh? for $200?! when you paid $600? for a phone?!?! frigtards, microtards, republicans, whiners, etc...

early adopters got adopted. p0wned...

it's ok. the $100 give out will alleviate some of the constipation... it appears so from a few posts here...

amen. the bejesus... and other saints...
