The smear campaign begins

Variety reports today that, according to unnamed sources in the movie and TV business, the real reason for the breakup with NBC is that Apple is trying to slash the price of TV show downloads to 99 cents from $1.99. In other words, we're the bad guys, and we've misled everyone by suggesting that the breakup came about because NBC wants to raise prices to $4.99. See the smear job here.

We knew this would happen when we started dealing with the Hollywood guys. It's how they roll. They screw you in private and then try to smear you with leaked stories full of lies. This story in particular was one that Zucker told us his guys were cooking up. He handed out copies of it to us the last time we met with them. He's like, Play ball, or this thing shows up in Variety, word for word. Oh well. Katie and Steve say we can handle this kind of stuff no problem. They say we're still winning the battle for hearts and minds of consumers.

"Just keep handing out those Benjamins," Phil Schiller says. He's running around all psyched up about this rebate program. Says it's the best idea we've ever had. He's more excited than Larry Craig in an airport men's room. Says we should have thought of this years ago. Wants to start adding a hundred bucks to the list price of everything and then giving it back to customers later. I told him we'll think about it and get back to him. ("We" means "me," but it sounds fancier when we put it in the first person passive pluperfect or whatever.)

as long as apple doesnt entrap their customers and accuse them of illegally downloading material that was nefariously posted by the copyright holders in order to bust people, then apple shouldnt havbe to worry.

id also advise against suing families because Little Jimmy downloaded the latest Britney Spears album. Spyware in every song/tvshow/movie downloaded is also a no-no for consumer goodwill.

Keep making great products so customers feel good and dont sue them because you have a failed business model, and youve pretty much got this battle already won.

More talk about how the media companies want to screw the consumer is always good too. After Oil and Energy companies, Media companies rank second on the "Industries Most Likely Collaborating with Satan" list.

Technology is third, so you have some breathing room before your own Satanic Worshipping comes into play. But by then the iGod will have alread been released and people will be going to the Apple Store on Wednesdays and Sundays like good little Jobsites.

Just have to love how smart these NBC MBAs are. Having lost part 1 of the PR battle - Apple claim we want to raise prices - they come back with the sucker punch. Apple actually want to reduce what we, the consumer, have to pay!

That'll get them. How do they answer that one? Friend of the consumer? We're the ones who want to save them wear and tear on their pockets by relieving them of their loose change.

What's that? Men in white coats? Gotta go...

Some times I feel ripped off watching NBC for free on the tv.

Imagine how $4.99 will feel.

NBC guys want every packet on the internet "filtered", China-style, to protect the Sitcom. And that's not even made up.

The guys who claim to be part of a free press want to enable total internet censorship. (Once your filtering packets because you don't like what's in it, it's feasible to filter for any agenda.)

Yes, I know, they're complete tards to think such a scheme could work (encryption, have you heard of it?) But what a story...
