If vaguely true, that would actually be pretty damned cool. The only app that I'd love to see (other than Tasks, Notes synching with outlook/OS X) is the software reader from eReader.com - that's the only thing I really miss from my old Treo.
Being able to read a book in a meeting and still look busy.

If that there iPhone is os x based, there's really no reason why the guts could not be locked down tight, to allow 3rd party apps to run on top in a sand box.
Top of my wish list: VOIP. The hell with edge/3g (and paying for it) and all that. Free calls using unlimited WiFi would be the true disruptive technology, at least until the mobiles catch on to it.

I love how believably this is worded. I think it is something Apple wants to do. Why announce through FSJ though? Hmmm. Maybe more here than meets the eye. That Hillary post (and I'm a contributor to her campaign) was just so friggin BELIEVABLE!
Actually, I successfully went from 1.1.1 back 1.0.2 but I'd go to x.y.z in a heartbeat even without the SDK if you, Mr FSJ/RSJ, would enable Flash! Have you heard of it?

Even FSJ is a slave of the engineers. He could finish the SDK himself (or ask Woz to do it, hmm, ..., better not), but he is busy with the lawyers.
FSJ, now you're just being mean. On the one hand, a simultaneous Leopard/iPhone SDK release would be, in a word, fucking insane. On the other hand...you're FSJ (emphasis on "F") and, well, our relationship is FOUNDED on a lie. What's a boy supposed to do?

FSDK
Which is very like the Unix command, fsck (file system consistency check) which as every Slashturd knows is a euphemism for a 4 letter word.
This is very appropriate, as when the 1.1.1 update hit, all I said was:
fsdk, fsdk, fsdk.
An SDK tied to Leopard is not all that unrealistic.
Maybe the SDK requires garbage collection or properties, which are Objective-C 2.0 features, which require XCode 3.0, which requires Leopard.
We shall see...

If true, I suspect it might just be an iPhone version of Leopards widget maker, which while cool, which still make offline app development rather limited.

I really hope you've got some inside info here.
I want Apple to make their own innstaller app for iPhone, where only apps they have tested and approved can be downloaded.
That will make it safe, fast, simple and fun to download 3rd party apps
