Totally unauthorized

This is a poster that went up on the campus of the University of Massachusetts. Good old Zoo Mass apparently has a lot of music thieves. Who knew? Best thing though is if you check out the flickr page where this is posted you'll see some pretty funny strident comments from typical amateur lawyer types arguing over copyright law and fair use. God I love when simpletons argue about legal issues and get all vexed and pedantic. Endless entertainment.

Kids, BTW, FWIW, we don't give a shit what the law says and neither should you. You stole our idea. If we want to fuck you up, we will fuck you up. Plain and simple. If we want to make your life a living hell, we can and we will. If we tell you to take down the posters and paint your asses red and jump around like baboons and send us a videotape of yourselves doing it, you'll do it. Got it? Good. Now don't you have a paper due? Get back to work. And stop stealing music. Much love to Matt for the tip.

"Why join the navy, when you can be a pirate?" eh?

Well said. I actually steal music too, but at least I don't rationalize by making bogus legal explanations. (which makes me a much better person)

"It's fair use..." No, it's not. It's copyrighted material, which you're not paying for. Ergo, it's stealing. Period.

the poster is signed by the "Office of IT" presumably part of the administration. So maybe the school doesn't get any more Macs from now on?

Where was this on Pirate Day?

It was back in the eighties as that cold, cold war of the latter end of last millenium was ending that the Russian Navy parked its boats in the mouth of the Cheasapeake Bay near US Naval headquarters, Atlantic side.

Cute Russian sailors were said to be seen all over the port. They loved American rock music, yea even that eighties stuff. Americans being the welcoming people we are to all foreigners on our soil, asked sailors what they wanted to take home to Russia. On the radio the local DJs encouraged people to bring down empty casette tapes, which was something small, so that these poor sailors who could not get our cool and funky music in their country, could tape stuff (pirate, for sailors I guess) off the radio. Even the government was okay with this.

I don't know how this story has any relevance but I just remember it was music and pirating that brings down barriers like the Berlin Wall, I think.

Oh the memories~

I'm just a douchebag who, as "lead graphic designer", has not an ounce of creativity or originality. Don't get your panties in a wad, FSJ - save it for the Borg who "parodied" your OS.

At least slap the talentless moron with a quick cease and desist letter.

I love the way UMass stole the Apple IP to make a poster about stealing IP. Retards.

I hate to make bad even worse, but word on RIAA street is that the record companies are planning to start suing iTues customers -- because "downloading is still illegal, even if you pay for it."

I think being a download pirate is better than being a Butt Pirate!
