Good news for Borg: Software pirates aren't stealing Vista

Bad news for Borg: They're stealing XP instead. Ha! Phil says he doesn't see why we even need to run ads about Vista. My feeling is it's worth it just for the giggles. It's how I roll, people. Gizmodo has the full story here. Much love to Michael for the tip.

I still think it's funny they people avoid vista so much, they don't even want to steal it.

I agree with the above poster, but there is more to it - Microsoft might not even be able to detect Vista Piracy (more : http://whyamistilltyping.wordpress.com/2007/12/05/vista-piracy-half-that-of-xp/)

Why not target XP in the next Mac and PC guy ad?

I would show the PC guy with some older cloths (maybe a bit to small/short). He's feeling uncomfortable with his current suit and went back to some older ... looking slightly old-fashioned.

XP SP3 will install new anti-piracy features which turn the user's computer into masonry . . .

Couldn't have said it better myself. Why am I even posting a comment?

the only reason XP is as pervasive as it is, is precisely because of how easy it is to pirate. make Vista hard to pirate, and they will lose market share. Damned either way, but they'd be smart to let some pirating happen as they'll make it back in corp. sales anyway once it's totally pervasive like XP.

It used to be that I would have to re-install XP at least once a year, maybe even more often. Then I stopped installing the patches.

That was about a year and a half ago. I haven't had a problem since. And my computer doesn't get consistently slower every month either. I guess Vista is just one big-ass service pack.

The pirating of Vista is not down because of the new "anti-piracy" features in Vista. They are down because no one wants Vista. Microsoft has been trying to spin the same old reality for months. Vista sucks. They tried to put a Mercedes body on a Yugo engine.

XP piracy has gone up since Vista. I work in a small computer store and people are pirating XP to replace their Vista installation. I am doing a brisk business in finding the correct drivers for their computers since the later ones have no OEM XP support.
